What is HAWQ?
HAWQ is known as the world’s fasted SQL query engine on HDFS which makes it a great tool for exploring and transforming data.  HAWQ breaks complex queries into small tasks and distributes them to MPP query processing units for execution. The query planner, dynamic pipeline, leading edge interconnect, and the specific query executor optimization for distributed storage are designed to work seamlessly, to support highest level of performance and scalability. The HAWQ architecture allows for each segment having its own files but instead of storing these files local to each segment (shared nothing), the data is stored in HDFS. HAWQ allows for the creation of an External Table to HDFS that reads Text, Hive, HBase, and Parquet.
